In recognition of Fire Prevention Month many of Loudoun’s Fire and Rescue Companies will be hosting open houses throughout October. These events offer a chance for the public to visit the stations and enjoy a host of activities geared toward fire prevention and community awareness. Here is a listing of upcoming fire prevention month events:
Saturday October 8th
- Sterling Volunteer Fire Company – 11am-3pm (104 Commerce Street, Sterling)
Come by and meet your local firefighters, learn about their organization, and see demonstrations of skills and equipment. Visit www.sterlingfire.org for more information.
- Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company – 12pm-4pm (61 Plaza Street NE, Leesburg)
In partnership with Leesburg Police. Come join us for a fun filled day! Activities include: 911 simulator, Sparky the Fire Dog, McGruff the Crime Dog, demonstrations, fire truck rides, Child ID kits, helicopter, food.
Sunday October 9th
- Lovettsville Volunteer Fire and Rescue – 12pm-4pm (12837 Berlin Turnpike, Lovettsville)
Stop by and meet your Volunteers, see fire trucks, live demonstrations, have fun with the kids, jump on our moon bounce, and have a bite to eat with us.
Sunday October 16th
- Purcellville Volunteer Fire Company – 1pm-4pm (500 N. Maple Ave, Purcellville)
PVFC will host its annual open house on October 16, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. All residents are invited to partake in the following activities: Photos with Sparky the Fire dog, practice Stop, Drop, and Roll, Put Out the Fire, Firetruck rides, Be a Firefighter Photo Booth, and 911 Simulations. Visit with Smokey the Bear along with his friends from the US Forrest Service. Learn how to use a Fire Extinguisher, proper care & maintenance of smoke alarms, PPE demonstrations, PVFC supporter merchandise for sale. Visit with one of LCFR Bomb Technician’s and his arson dog Dolley. Residents can also tour the Purcellville Safety Center. We will also have the following live action demonstrations a Vehicle Extrication at 2:30, and the Ladder Truck Challenge at 3:30.
Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad will also be on hand to provide Ambulance tours, First Aide demonstrations and you can learn how to join the Explorer Program. They will also have hot dogs, chips, and drinks available for purchase. The Moon Bounce and Face Painting on site.
- Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue – 12pm-3:45pm (20688 Ashburn Road, Ashburn)
Our Fall Open House is one way we show our thanks to you, our neighbors, for all your support. This is also the week we celebrate our firefighters. We’ve packed the afternoon with fun for the whole family. Great Raffles and Sales Table – Holiday cards, ornaments, and more! Activities include: Ambulance Tour, Bomb Detection Dog, Face Painting, Macaroni Craft Lady, Moon Bounce, Legoland, “Jaws of Life” Demonstration, Station Tours, Terry the Traumasaurus, Touch the Truck, and more! Our “Safety Beat” offers a fun educational environment for kids to learn safety measures. Visit 4 of 5 safety stops to receive an event t-shirt. Visit all 5 stops and be entered to win a Grand Prize.
Sunday October 23rd
- Arcola Volunteer Fire and Rescue – 1pm-4pm (23675 Belmont Ridge Road, Ashburn)
Join us for an afternoon of family fun. Activities include: paint the pumpkin, health checks, fire engine rides, station tours, 911 simulator. Don’t miss the Air Care helicopter landing, as well as appearances by Smokey the Bear, Sparky the Fire Dog. Refreshments will be served.
